How to expand an existing company’s market with an innovative product following the brand language of the company.

Project Duration - 10 Weeks

Focus - Brand, Research Innovative solution, Product Design.

Final Deliverable - Physical Product

Project Brief

The project initiated with choosing a company and analyzing the brand language of the company, for which I did an attribute exercise to analyze and define an existing brand in my own terms under emotional and rational attributes. Visualizing the brand in a line drawing and associating the brand with existing objects was the next step to better understand the feeling of the brand.

Taking this knowledge and applying it to build a new product satisfying the market needs and hence resonating with the brand language of the brand was the second half of the task.

I chose Philips as a brand and specifically Philips healthcare and developed a mother-baby product.

Observations

This was the most exciting part of this project when I started making a prototype of a wearable my main concerns were not the mechanism, material, stitching, etc but my biggest problem was to convince people for letting me observe their kids. As a part of my project, I had to find out the most unreached pulse points by the kids age 0-3 years. I made sure I did not break any legal rules I asked few parents and no one agreed so prototyping and observation were a little difficult in terms of getting access to babies.

This was a challenge for me and this solution was possible because of few people who helped me. I called up people I know who have kids, who lived far away from my place and facetimed with them for an hour and observed their kids.

From Secondary Research the insights regarding the pulse points in kids can easily be located on Elbow or Sole. After analysis, observation with pros and cons of these two points I picked elbow as my choice for wearable.
